Saudi foreign minister stresses kingdom’s keenness to develop relations with Iran on condition it changes its policy

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is keen to develop its relations well with Iran on condition that Iran changes its policy, which is to intervene in the affairs of the GCC countries, Syria, Iraq and Lebanon, considering the continuing tragedy of the Syrian people is due to Tehran’s support for the regime of Bashar al-Assad, and its interference in Yemen and Iraq in a flagrant way in addition to Bahrain.

In a press conference held with German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier in Berlin today, Al-Jubeir said that Iran must change its aggressive policies if it really wants good neighborly and respect relations with its neighbors.

The Foreign Minister expressed the view that Iran’s failure to allow International Atomic Energy Agency’s inspectors to enter some military installations means Tehran’s intention to make nuclear weapons, stressing that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is closely monitoring the Iranian policy’s developments concerning uranium enrichment and obtaining it enriched from the states concerned with Iranian nuclear file.

He stressed on the kingdom’s keenness on the safety of Yemen and its people, pointing out that the kingdom and coalition states’ intervention was at the request of the legitimate President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

With regard to human rights in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Al-Jubeir confirmed that human rights are preserved in accordance with Islamic law, as women have rights and all the procedures in the kingdom emanate from Islamic law. He touched on the issue of Raef Badawi and said that his case is going on according to the independent judiciary, pointing out that the kingdom does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries and therefore will not allow anyone to interfere in its internal affairs.

The German foreign minister also spoke on German keenness to boost relations with the kingdom and said he will visit the kingdom in September or October.
